Technology infrastructure has become a necessary component of modern schools. However, many new charter schools struggle to be able to afford advanced technologies for their students, faculty and administration, or prioritize what is essential during initial start-up years. Beyond that, developing a long range technology plan is also a difficult prospect for some school leaders, particularly those who are focused on operating a startup charter school. Accordingly, the CSU will be able to provide assistance to schools with the development of these plans by an expert in the area of instructional technology.
The CSU is developing an evaluation instrument to assist schools determine their technology needs and develop a plan for acquiring the required equipment. We also are working to develop a sample technology plan which would meet the requirements of the state-approved technology plan as required by the Universal Service Administrative Company which administers ERate funding. We anticipate that we will be prepared to offer technology reviews by the end of the 2014 calendar year.
